Covid-19 and Return-to-School (1)

Well, not sure how the 2020-2021 academic year will play out but there is a plan!

Rather than taking four courses each day, students take two courses at a time on a quadmester schedule, one course in the morning and another in the afternoon. The quad changeover occurs at the end of October.

Grade 9 and 10 will be in class for three school days then online learning for the next three days, alternating this way until the end of the Quad. Grade 11 and 12 will do the same but on the reverse schedule.

The result is fewer on-campus students and staff and separation of the grade 9 and 10 cohort from the grade 11 and 12 cohort.

We have a health and safety specialist advising on Covid-19 precautions. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

For me, the first quad is one grade 11 math and prep period, with robotics (a split grade 9/11 course) and grade 9 math in the second quad. The prep time in the first quad is useful — allows me to plan for both quad. The second quad is busier but with robotics being, at least in part, a hands-on course, this should be nicely doable.

Of course, it is unclear whether in-class courses would occur since the Six Nations of the Grand River community has chosen to remain at Stage 2 of the Covid-19 re-opening process….

Too early to contemplate February to June, 2021 (the second semester or perhaps the third and fourth quad….)
